The future site for the 'Vandenberg' is about six miles off Key West. Key West is home to some of the world’s most famous dive sites, and part of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary (FKNMS).
The site selected has a hard sandy bottom, well south of the main reef structure off of Key West. The water there is generally blue and visibility in the 60-80 foot range can be expected on an average day. The Vandenberg site was carefully selected with the help of the FKNMS. The clear, calm water also facilitates the study and monitoring of reef development.
